Coimbatore: A 52-year-old brain-dead woman from Namakkal who suffered grievous injuries in a road accident gave a new lease of life to six people with her family coming forward to donate her organs.
According to sources, the woman identified as P
Jayamani met with a road accident while travelling with her son in a two-wheeler on
Avinashi road on June 8. She was rushed to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (
KMCH) for specialised treatment. However, Jayamani did not respond to the treatment and was declared brain dead on June 9.
It was during this time, that the woman’s family generously came forward to donate Jayamani’s organs to help the needy people. The multi-organ transplant surgeons and the team of doctors harvested the woman’s liver, kidneys, eyes and skin in accordance with the regulations prescribed by the
Transplant Authority Government of
Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN).
The harvested organs including one kidney and liver were transplanted to the patients at KMCH while her eyes, another kidney and skin were transported to a private hospital in Coimbatore. tnn
