BERHAMPUR: The parents of a 28-year-old man of
Ganjam’s Khallikote urged the district administration to safely repatriate their son, who is behind bars in
Jordan for the past 10 months, to his village.
“We came to know about my son’s arrest from one of his Odia friends. We don’t know why was he arrested. I urge the Ganjam collector to bring my son back home,” said Bhikari Pradhan, 60, the victim’s father.
Kuresh, a bachelor, went to Jordan in 2019 to work as a tailor in a garment company. His parents said he used to send money to them every month. But he neither contacted his parents nor sent money in the past 10 months. The worried parents then contacted one of
Kuresh’s friends who worked with him and learned about his arrest.
The family has also approached Chhatrapur labour officer Narendra Gaipai, seeking help. “He went to Jordan to earn a little more so that he can repay the loans that we took during our daughter’s wedding. We are very worried about our son,” said Kuresh’s mother
Pandi Pradhan.
“We have conducted an inquiry and recorded the statement of Kuresh’s family members. The inquiry report was submitted to the district collector. The collector will send the report to the state labour commissioner for necessary action to be taken,” said Gaipai.
Labour inspector Hrusikesh Reddy visited Kuresh’s village for the inquiry. “We don’t know the exact reason of his arrest,” Reddy added.
