Vadodara: Six policemen of the
Manjalpur police station were suspended for dereliction of duty while serial fraudster Harshil Limhachiya was in their custody.
Two of them were caught napping when the
Uttar Pradesh police came to take
Limbachiya in custody, but Limbachiya walked out of the Manjalpur police station in their presence.
The suspensions also include policemen who did favours to Limbachiya when he was in police custody. Limbachiya was arrested days after he escaped the Manjalpur police station in a cheating case where he had bought a used car from a dealer and did not pay.
Sources said that assistant sub-inspector
Sanjay Suryabhanand woman lokrakshak Pragnya Hasmukhbhai were present in the Manjalpur police station when the UP police came there. Limbachiya who had been granted bail was present in the police station, but left in cops’ presence.
While no connivance has come to light, it has transpired that the duo was not alert while on duty and did not realise that Limbachiya was leaving even as the UP police had come looking for him.
Head constable of the Manjalpur police station Wahid Nabilanded in trouble for handing over a phone to Limbachiya. Sources said that Limbachiya had made some calls using the phone.
The other three policemen include head constables Thakore
Sana and Manoj Devidas as well as constable Alprajsinh Jitendrasinh were accompanying Limbachiya when he took ill and was taken to the hospital.
In the hospital, Limbachiya gave an interview to a local television. A senior official said that this should not have happened under their vigil and hence they were suspended.
The negligence and favours came to light in two phases –first when Limbachiya left the police station and then after he was nabbedagain by the city police in connection with another cheating case.
