Ranchi: Two persons died and nearly a dozen sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) following Friday’s violent protest on the Main Road here, in retaliation to the recent controversial statements made against
Prophet Muhammad by a former BJP spokesperson. Internet serveices were shut in the city until further orders.
The deceased have been identified as Kaifi alias Mudasir (16) and Md
Sahil (24), both residents of the Hindpiri area. Among the injured are Nadim Ansari, Md Tabarak (28), Md Sarfaraz, Md Shabaz, Md Sufiyan,
Sabir Ansari, Usman, Tabarak (18) and Md Afsar. Police claimed they were part of the group of protesters who had hurled stones, damaged vehicles and unleashed terror in the heart of the city.
A policeman, Akhilesh Kumar, who sustained a bullet injury in his leg, is also undergoing treatment at the Rims orthopaedic department.
Rims public relations officer (PRO) Dr D K Sinha said, “Two people died during treatment. Kaifi had sustained severe injuries in his head while Sahil had multiple wounds in his head and legs among others.”
The PRO added that 12 people are admitted to different departments, with Nadim, who is in a critical condition, undergoing treatment at the critical care unit.

Surendra Kumar Jha, who had also sustained injuries in his head and chest, was discharged from a private hospital on Saturday afternoon.
