Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum Police is on high alert in view of a series of protests across the district over the controversial remarks made against
Prophet Mohammed by two
BJP leaders who have been suspended by the party.
SSP M Tamil Vanan has appealed to people not to forward any hate messages on the social media and said any attempt to spread falsehood and misinformation will be dealt with firmly.
He added that security in the district, particularly in the sensitive areas, has been beefed up and day patrolling intensified.
Earlier in the day, people of the minority community took out a protest march at Musaboni, 50 km from Jamshedpur.
The crowd consisting over 1,000 people, who were carrying national flags and placards, walked from Bedia to Musaboni police station and raised slogans against expelled BJP spokesperson
Nupur Sharma and
Naveen Jindal.
The agitators demanded immediate arrest and stricter punishment for the duo. Some also demanded capital punishment for Nupur. Armed police jawans were deployed to make sure the rally concludes peacefully.
Deputy SP (Musaboni) Chandrasekhar Azad, besides police station incharges of Dumaria and Gurabanda and the BDO and CO of Musaboni block, were present at the police station when the agitators arrived for giving representation to the deputy SP.
“No particular outfit organised the march. People of the community (Muslim) came together and took out the rally,” Azad said.
A similar protest march, likely to be comparatively bigger in size, will be taken out from Dhalbhumgarh to Ghatshila on Monday. “We have received the permission from the administration,” said Tariq Hyder, a volunteer of the group that has called the protest march.
