Rain hits onion stock, houses in Nashik district

NASHIK: At least 17 onion storages in Chandwad, Niphad and Nandgaon talukas were damaged in the rainfall and storm that lashed parts of Nashik district on Friday and Saturday.
According to resident deputy collector Bhagwat Doifode, the rain had damaged some farms and onion storages besides houses. As many as 63 houses have been partially damaged . The work of assessment of the damage is being carried out.
As per the primary report available, at least 17 onion storages have been damaged due to the gusty winds that blew away the tin-covers of the onion-sheds and houses.
"Many farmers had stored the onion in their sheds and houses because, currently, the onions are fetching low rates in the market. The farmers were planning to sell the stock at a later date when the market prices were higher. However, the rain has poured water over their plans," Mahesh Donwade, a farmer from Chandwad , said.
