BHUBANESWAR: The five-day mango fair, organised by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), here is witnessing a huge footfall of visitors.
The organisers said, though climate change and unusual weather conditions have affected the yield, size and taste of the King of Fruits this year, a large number of varieties has been made available at the fair.
“Despite low production, we organised the fair to continue its tradition. Here people can buy organic fruits directly from growers at a lower price than the market,” said ORMAS chief executive officer
Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar. Varieties like Amrapalli, Mallika,
Daseri, Baiganpallei, Totapuri and
Khirsagar are being sold like hot cakes.
“Everyone in my family loves mango. We visit this fair every year as we get a huge variety of mangoes at one place. This year, the fruit came to the market very late and the prices are also very high,” said
Subrat Jena, a visitor.
