FIR against 19 for setting 2 youths on fire

Gumla: Gumla sadar police on Friday night booked nine identified persons, including the parents of the rape survivor, and 10 unidentified people in connection with setting the two rape accused ablaze. Two of the identified accused were arrested on Friday night while the mother of the rape survivor was held on Saturday. Sources from the sadar hospital said the medical report of the survivor confirmed rape.
Police said some relatives of the rape survivor from a nearby village had arrived in a SUV before the torching incident. “The arrested are the survivor’s mother besides villagers Dharmu Oraon and Krishna Oraon. The mother had poured the petrol on the two rape accused. The remaining accused are the rape survivor’s father, brother, paternal uncle, two maternal uncles, and villager Bandhan Oraon,” police sources added.
Sunil Oraon (22) and Ashish Oraon (21) were set afire after petrol was poured on them for raping a 18-year-old girl on Wednesday night. Sunil died on Thursday morning, while Ashish is under treatment in Rims.
Officer in-charge Manoj Kumar told TOI, “On the complaint of deceased Sunil’s father Bartu Oraon, police filed an FIR against the nine identified and 10 unidentified persons for torching the two youths alive under Sections 147, 148, 149, 302, 307, 323, 324, 326, 341, 363, 435 of the IPC. We are verifying the names and addresses of the accused and will arrest them soon.”
Meanwhile, another FIR was lodged on Friday against the two rape accused based on the survivor’s statement. Gumla SDPO Manish Chandra Lal said, “In her statement, the victim girl has stated that she was raped by the two men.”
Forces are camping at the village since Wednesday night.
