VADODARA: The number of active Covid-19 cases in the city and district hit three digits with 33 new cases being reported on Saturday. The new cases include 22 from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits and 11 from areas of the district outside city limits.
The new cases were detected from 1,474 tests conducted in the 24 hours ending on Saturday evening. The fresh cases in the city are now trickling in from different areas while those from the areas outside the city limits are largely from developing areas bordering VMC limits. The cases reported on Saturday are nearly equal to those being reported in the end of February.
Against the 33 new cases only eight Covid-19 patients were discharged leaving 111 active cases. The number of active cases was over 100 for the first time after March 5 when 109 active cases were reported.
The active cases have also contributed to higher hospitalisation. The number of patients hospitalised on Saturday stood at eight against six on Friday. The hospitalised persons include one needing oxygen support even as others have mild symptoms.
The west zone of VMC continued to report the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the city with 11 testing positive from the zone. This was followed by five cases in the north zone and three each in the east and south zones. Eleven new cases were reported from areas outside the VMC limits.
