Priyank slams BJP’s ‘chaddi’ collection drive

Mysuru: Congress leader Priyank Kharge on Saturday attacked the BJP leaders for carrying out a ‘chaddi’ (shorts) collection drive to send them to the Congress headquarters in Bengaluru as a mark of their protest against Opposition leader Siddaramaiah’s remarks on RSS Khaki shorts.
He described the campaign organised by the state BJP unit as an attempt to divert the attention of the people.
Speaking to reporters, Priyank said Congress has given a call to its student wing activists to burn khaki shorts worn by RSS workers in protest against the revision of school syllabus, to burn the ideology of RSS, its agenda on saffronisation of the education system.
He condemned the BJP leaders for conducting the ‘chaddi’ collection campaign. “Let all BJP leaders involve in the campaign instead of conducting it through SC/ST Morcha, insulting the Dalit community by making them carry used ‘chaddis’,” he said.
BJP must stop involving in divisive politics, and instead distribute school uniforms, and textbooks on time to students. Government must refrain from revising textbooks, Priyank added.
“Instead of including writings by RSS leaders in school curriculum, BJP government must bring out a separate book on RSS, its history, and ideology, mentioning facts. BJP leaders must tell the truth to people about why the national flag was not hoisted at RSS head office for over 52 years,” he added.
