RAJKOT: In an effort to align the traffic signals for easy synchronizing all other signals while creating green corridors for emergency vehicles, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has installed smart signals on the main roads, which will also save 35 percent of commuters’ time.
According to the RMC, of the total 29 signals nine are converted into smart signals on Dhebar road, Trikonbaug chowk, Jubeli chowk, Kanta Stri Vikas Gruh, Raiya Circle, Hanuman Madhi chowk, Nagrik bank chowk, Makkam chowk and Satya Vijay icecream chowk.
The civic body had earlier installed three smart signals at Dhebar road, Trikonbaug chowk and Jubilee chowk and the other six signals were installed on Saturday.
Municipal commissioner Amit Arora said, “We have analysed the data of traffic on three cross roads and found that around 35 percent of commuters time is saved after traffic junctions converted into a specific mode.”
In this mode, all the signals on one road get synchronised and make green corridors for vehicles and leave no scope for traffic jams. These signals also give how many and what type of vehicles pass through a particular junction.
This signals also allow analysis on the direction of heavy vehicles coming in huge numbers and the signals can be set accordingly to allow these vehicles to pass uninterrupted removing chances of traffic jam.
