Coimbatore: The state government should not allow the
Mekedatu dam construction proposal by the
Karnataka government to be discussed in the
Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) meeting proposed to be held in New Delhi on June 17, Pattali Makkal Katchi president
Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday.
Talking to newsmen at the Coimbatore international airport, he said that the central government is supporting the Karnataka government in the Mekedatu issue since elections are coming up in that state. Both Congress and BJP are doing politics over the issue.
“The agenda of the Mekedatu dam proposal should not be taken for discussion in the CWMA meeting. It is against the ruling of the supreme Court. The state government should take measures to stop the proposal from being discussed with the help of the Supreme Court,” he said. He welcomed the formation of a panel to give recommendation to promulgate an ordinance to regulate online gambling. He said that the rule brought by AIADMK in 2020 banning it was with good intention but it was struck down by the court due to poor framing of law. State and central governments should provide subsidies to purchase yarn to save the industry. tnn
