Bogota joins the UNWTO network for sustainable tourism

The Tourism Observatory of Bogotá´has long-lasting and wide-ranging monitoring experience and it has been further reinforced by the City Council as a mechanism of public management and instrument to amalgamate, organize, examine and study information regarding the tourism sector. Becoming a member of INSTO will aid Bogotá in taking care of tourism growth in a responsible and sustainable way. It would also allow it to better take care of post-pandemic recovery.


ZurabPololikashvili, the UNWTO Secretary-General said that the INSTO network is a stage where observatories are welcomed that are dedicatedtowardbuilding the sustainable expansion of tourism based on proof, participating approaches and transparency. Pololikashvilisaid that the UNWTO isextremely pleased to welcome Bogotá into the system as the newest member.

Bogotá boasts of a wide range of tourist resources and places of interestwith an infrastructure that permits the development of diversefirst-class tourism products. As the most sought after Colombian destination considering tourist numbers, arrival of tourists in 2021 went up to almost 6 million, with a growth of 49.8% in comparison to 2020, fetching US$5.795 billion conforming to 2.4% of the total GDP of the city.It means an annual surge of 38.2% between 2020 and 2021. As part of the Sustainable Tourism Policy of Colombia 2022, the vision of reinforcing the status and recognition of Colombia as aecological tourism destination is evidentlydelineated.
