NOIDA: A policeman has been booked for marrying another woman without divorcing his first wife. While the police have initiated departmental inquiry against him as he was on leave for 193 days without informing seniors, he has also been suspended from duty.
“Civil police constable
Chitrasen Kumar was inducted into the service in 2012. During his appointment in the Gautam Budh Nagar commissionerate, he remained absent from work from July 25, 2020 to February 3, 2021 without permission,” a senior officer said on Friday. “The constable also got married for a second time without divorcing the first wife,” the officer added.
According to the police department, the 30-year-old constable's actions have been found in violation of the provision of Rule 29 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servant Conduct Rules, 1956. “Departmental proceedings also found him guilty under Rule 14(1) of the UP Subordinate Category Police Officers (punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1991,” said the spokesperson of the Noida police.
“As per procedures, a notice was issued to him but despite a time of two months, he failed to give a written explanation for his actions after which the deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) passed an order to dismiss him from the service,” the spokesperson added.
The cop has also been booked under
IPC sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating) and 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife).
Police said Kumar is still not traceable. Further, legal proceedings against him will be carried out once he is found.
This is the fourth time in a week that action has been taken against a Noida cop. On Tuesday, a sub-inspector posted at
Jarcha was suspended from duty for taking Rs 30,000 bribe from a complainant in connection with an assault case. On Wednesday, two personnel—Sarvesh Kumar, in-charge of Sector 63 police station and Vikas Kumar Jain, SI at Sector 126—were sent to Police Lines for corruption and negligence in duty.
