GURUGRAM The city reported 222 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, slightly lower than the previous day, when it had 259 cases. The positivity rate also dipped to 5.5% from 6.4% on Thursday.
Gurugram now has 800 active cases. Though cases are rising, the rate of hospitalisation is still low, according to the
health department, with five patients undergoing treatment in hospitals while the rest are in home isolation.

Data from the health department shows that Gurugram reported 350-450 new cases daily from April 24 to May 15. After that, it saw less than 200 cases, which further dipped to below 100 cases between June 4 and June 6. Since then, cases are again reporting a rise.
“There is a slight rise in cases in Delhi-NCR at present. Cases are likely to further increase in the coming days, so people need to take precautions. We are closely monitoring the cases. Also, people who are due for their booster dose should get the vaccine at the earliest. Recipients in the 12-17 age group should get vaccinated as well to curb the spread of the virus,” said Dr
Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer.
According to the health department, the city has added 1,540 cases to its case load in June so far. A total of 7,619 Covid cases were reported in May and 5,894 in April.
According to doctors, patients have mild symptoms at present — cold, cough, fever and fatigue.
Dr Ashutosh Shukla, senior director (internal medicine) at Max Hospital, said: “Most patients have mild flu-like symptoms which start with a scratchy throat and running nose, followed by fever, headache, body ache and a dry cough. Since the virus is most-ly affecting the upper respiratory tract, patients with Covid these days don’t have shortness of breath unlike those in the previous waves.”
The doctor added: “Most patients are in home isolation, but those with associated comorbidities like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease or immunocompromised situations and those above 60 years of age are requiring hospitalisation.”
