Chandrapur: Tiger kills shepherd in Tadoba

CHANDRAPUR: A tiger killed a shepherd out for grazing cattle in Padzari jungle, under Mul (buffer) range of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, on Friday afternoon.
Guddu Mohurle (32) along with others had taken his cattle to compartment number 324. While he was busy grazing his cattle, a tiger prowling in the area attacked and killed him. Other shepherds witnessed the attack and fled to the nearby village. They informed villagers, who in turn intimated foresters.
A team of foresters recovered the body. Forest officials have paid ex gratia aid of Rs25,000 to the kin of the victim. Villagers have been warned against venturing to the jungle and camera traps have been installed around the spot to identify the tiger responsible for human kill. Three people have been killed in this area in the last three months.
The toll due to predator attacks in the district this year has reached 19. Out of these, 14 people have been killed by tigers, while leopards have claimed five victims. Predators had killed 39 people in Chandrapur last year.
