Minister makes surprise visit at MCH

Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister Veena George has urged the Medical College Hospital (MCH) authorities to operate three CT scanning machines and the MRI machine round the clock at the hospital.
The health minister, who made a surprise visit to the hospital casualty wing on Thursday night, made it clear that the delay in the scanning should be avoided and the people should get the maximum benefit of the scanning from the hospital itself.
She informed the authorities that she had received several complaints about the inordinate delay in getting the scanning done at the Medical College Hospital and also about the delay in receiving results.
The minister also asked authorities to ensure the functioning of the X-ray machines at the casualty wing round the clock.
She urged the hospital authorities to strictly monitor the functioning of the emergency wing of the hospital and shortcomings should be reported at any time.
The minister said regular monitoring should be done to ensure that all the services at the hospital are available 24 hours. The minister who reached the casualty wing of the hospital around 10 pm spent almost two hours at the hospital. She visited the cath lab, the scanning rooms and the laboratories there.
The health minister also interacted with patients and the bystanders and listened to their grievances.
Following the visit, the minister convened a meeting of the higher officials of the hospital on Friday morning in which she gave the necessary directions.
Director of medical education Dr Thomas Mathews, Medical College Hospital superintendent Dr Nizaaruddien and deputy superintendent Dr Anil Sundaram were present at the meeting held by the health minister.
