RTO agent siphons off ₹2L govt penalty for seized vehicles

Rajkot: A former regional transport office (RTO) agent has allegedly siphoned off nearly Rs two lakh government penalty by issuing fake receipts to people whose vehicles had been seized.
The accused Bhavesh alias Bhavubha Jadeja, 27, a resident of Galpadar in Gandhidham, was arrested by Lakadiya police on Friday.
The police got suspicious seeing an RTO receipt presented by a rman who got his vehicle released from the police station recently.
When cops asked him, the man said he had only approached Jadeja and given the penalty amount to be deposited with the RTO for releasing the vehicle.
"Our investigation revealed that Jadeja had given duplicate RTO receipts worth Rs two lakh to 34 people to get their vehicles released from police stations. However, he siphoned off all the money. He has been running his racket for quite some now," said RR Vasava, inspector, Lakadiya police station.
The vehicles include trucks, buses, rickshaws and two-wheelers, which were seized for various offences in different police stations of Kutch.
