Bihar: Anti-conversion law needed in country, say state BJP leaders

PATNA: The BJP on Friday made a concerted move pitching for anti-conversion law in the country, besides seeking “global minority” tag for the Hindus in the countries that are member states of the UN.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Rakesh Sinha said if religious conversion takes place anywhere in India, it is “against the Constitution”. Talking to mediapersons at Begusarai, he said there were forces outside India which, by dint of money and mind, wanted to destabilise the country and also disrupt its social harmony. Sinha said no religious conversion should be allowed in the country and, therefore, it needed anti-conversion law.
Union minister Giriraj Singh, while at Muzaffarpur in connection with a court case in the MP-MLA court, also said the country needed an anti-conversion law.
Incidentally, the assertions made by Sinha and Singh on this count militate against the stand of CM Nitish Kumar, who on Thursday ruled out any need for such a law in the state, saying it’s people respect communal harmony.
Sinha, however, said no religious conversion should occur in the country and the central government headed by PM Narendra Modi is committed to foiling the designs of the “forces which want to create disturbance and destabilise the country”, as it happened recently in Kanpur through violence.
“The persons behind the Kanpur violence were identified and also arrested,” Sinha said.
