Two new flyovers opened in Coimbatore; parties vie with one another to claim credit

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin inaugurated the Trichy Road and Kavundampalayam flyovers in Coimbatore through video conferencing on Saturday morning.
The national highways wing of the state highways department started the construction of the Trichy Road flyover in 2019. The Union government allotted Rs 232 crore for the project. The 3.15km-long flyover is between the Stock Exchange building area and Rainbow area. It is a four-lane flyover.
The 1.2km-long Kavundampalayam flyover starts at Sanganoor Pallam and ends near SriVari apartment on the Mettupalayam Road. Its construction began on March 7, 2019. The Union government allotted Rs 60 crore for the project.
On Saturday, leaders of the DMK, the AIADMK and the BJP claimed credit for the construction of the flyovers. Tension prevailed for a while near the Trichy Road flyover when functionaries raised slogans in support of their leaders.
The district administration arranged a function of the flyover inauguration near the Stock Exchange building on Trichy Road on Saturday morning. State electricity minister V Senthil Balaji and hundreds of DMK members gathered there. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan and party cadre came. AIADMK MLAs Amman K Arjunan and KR Jayaram and several party members reached there. All party cadres raised slogans.
DMK cadre distributed sweets to motorists. Minister Senthil Balaji flagged off the vehicles on the Trichy road flyover.
Later, he visited Kavundampalayam flyover and DMK functionaries distributed sweets to the public and motorists. They burst crackers.

Kavundampalayam flyover
AIADMK MLAs PRG Arunkumar, KR Jayaram, AK Selvaraj and Amman K Arjunan visited the Kavundampalayam flyover. Police prevented them from entering the function area. Minister Senthil Balaji flagged off the vehicle movements on the Kavundampalayam flyover.
Later AIADMK MLAs and party cadre distributed sweets to the motorists and public.
