Srinagar: A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at ward 16 of SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
As per the hospital authorities, the incident took place around 3:15 pm when a storeroom near the ward caught fire. However, the fire has been doused and no loss of life and property has been reported.
“Some attendant must have left a cigarette butt on the floor. It resulted in the fire at the storeroom where the smoke emanated. The operated patients were immediately shifted to another ward,” an official said.
Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Kanwaljeet Singh told The Kashmir Monitor that the fire was doused within 15 to 20 minutes with the help of fire extinguishers available at the hospital.
“Also, as a safety measure, we have called some personnel from Fire and Emergency Services. They are inspecting the ward and the cleaning process is going on. Once we are done, the patients will be shifted back to the ward,” Dr Kanwaljit said.
