PRAYAGRAJ: Four passengers, travelling by 11034 Darbhanga-Pune express, were run over by a passing train at
Shankargharh railway station in Uttar Pradesh's
Prayagraj on Saturday morning.
According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) sources, two of the four passengers died on the spot and one succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a nearby hospital.
The fourth injured has been referred to Prayagraj for further treatment where he is battling for his life.
“As the train was taken on the loop line adjacent to platform number 1 of Shankargrah station, a number of passengers got down to refill their bottles from the tap of another platform. Meanwhile, when they were returning to their train, they were run over by Chambal express which was given a pass and moving towards Manikpur. Despite the loco pilot giving repeated honks, four passengers failed to notice the same and before they could cross over, they were run over by the train," said Amit Kumar Singh, public relations officer (PRO), Prayagraj division.
Singh further informed that those who died on the spot included Vikas Paswan (22) and Deepak (24).
Another passenger Munnu Shah (27) succumbed while being taken to hospital. Vikas Prajapati (20) was given initial treatment and was referred to Prayagraj for further treatment.
On getting the news, senior officials of the RPF, including inspector Naini, Avinash Shankar reached the spot and made the necessary arrangements.
Seeing this heart-breaking scene, people started crying. The station master immediately informed the RPF and GRP police about the incident.
On getting information, RPF assistant security commissioner, PK Agnihotri, inspector Naini, Avinash Shankar, sub-inspector Satyas Yadav and GRP outpost in-charge Suresh Chandra Yadav reached the spot and took seriously injured Munnu Shah and Vikas Prajapati to the local health centre.
The doctor declared Munnu Shah dead and after giving first aid to Vikas Prajapati, seeing his condition critical, referred him to Prayagraj.
The three bodies have been taken by the RPF and sent for postmortem. The four passengers were on their way from their village to Pune for their job.
