Five injured as police open fire in Mangaluru

MANGALURU: At least five persons including three police personnel sustained injuries after the city police opened fire while attempting to nab the accused in connection with a murder case reported at the Panambur Police Station limits.
City police commissioner, N Shashi Kumar on Saturday said that the incident took place in the Global Heritage layout of Mulki police station limits when a police team, that had already arrested two accused in the case, was about to arrest a few others.
The accused reportedly assaulted the policemen and tried to escape. Three rounds and one in the air were fired by CCB inspector Mahesh Prasad, due to which the accused identified as Arjun Moodshedde and Manoj aka Bindas Manoj sustained injuries. The injured accused and the police personnel were shifted to a private hospital.
The injured police staff are PSI Nagendra, head constable Sudhir Poojary and ASI David. The commissioner visited the spot of firing as well as the hospital.
