Gurugram: Drizzle, cloudy skies likely today, to help keep mercury in check

IMD said there will be no significant change in max temperature this week
GURUGRAM: The city continued to face searing heat on Thursday. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 43.5 degrees Celsius — two notches above normal, the minimum temperature stood at 27 degrees — a notch above normal. The relative humidity index oscillated between 47% and 48% throughout the day.
According to the India Meteorological Department, there will be no significant change in maximum temperature for the next 3-4 days, but later pre-monsoon activities are likely to be witnessed. Though it will give temporary relief from scorching heat that the city has been witnessing since the beginning of this month, the sultry weather conditions may increase uneasiness.
The weather office forecast partly cloudy conditions in the city on Friday with a possibility of thunderstorm and drizzle. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 43 degrees, according to the IMD.
“The impact of the western disturbance is confined to northern parts of Haryana and chances of rain are less in the city during the weekend. However, cloudy conditions will prevent any significant rise in temperature,” the IMD official said.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality entered the ‘poor’ category on Thursday after witnessing two ‘very poor’ air days. The overall AQI was 270 as compared to 396 on the previous day.
Similarly, parts of Delhi continued to suffer isolated heatwaves for the fifth day in row on Thursday even as the city recorded marginal drop in the maximum temperature. The weather department, however, forecasts a slight respite soon, with a few areas likely to see very light rain on Friday late afternoon or evening. The maximum temperature may drop further from Saturday.
“There are low chances of drizzle or very light rain in one or two isolated places during late afternoon or evening of Friday,” said R K Jenamani, a senior weather scientist at IMD.
