AHMEDABAD: Additional sessions judge C S Adhyaru at the district court on Friday rejected an application for 30-day bail filed by Tarun Jinaraj, who was arrested in October 2018 for his wife, Sajni Nair’s murder in 2003 and absconded for 15 long years.
Jinaraj (46) sought temporary bail on the ground of looking after his ailing mother, who has been placed in an old age home in Mirzapur. He submitted that since his brother does not look after the mother, the old woman has been placed in an institution and there is nobody to take care of her. He promised the court to commit himself back to the prison after the bail period gets over.
However, the prosecution vehemently opposed Jinaraj’s request for temporary bail citing his history of abscondence. The prosecutor informed the court about temporary bail that he got from the Gujarat high court in December 2019, but the HC cancelled his bail after Sajni’s father presented a true picture and informed the HC that Jinarat had obtained bail by presenting false information.
Jinaraj allegedly killed his wife Sajni by strangling her on Valentine’s Day in 2003, in just four months of their marriage. He filed a complaint, but when the cops became suspicious about his involvement, Jinaraj disappeared. He was traced and arrested 15 years later in 2018. He allegedly assumed his friend’s identity, lived and worked in different cities during these years. He had even travelled abroad on a fake passport.
