Surat: Kin of murder victim paid PF claim in 24 hours

The family of the deceased has been paid Rs 26,630 for provident fund as well as Rs 3.15 lakh towards insurance.
SURAT: Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Surat, processed the provident fund claim of 26-year-old Raut within 24 hours and paid the money to his relative on Thursday.
Earlier, Raut had been found murdered on April 25 in the basement parking lot of a luxury hotel near Magdalla crossroads.
A relative of Raut, Sanjay Sahoo, accepted the money from the EPFO officials at a city hotel. EPFO officials claimed that the victim had not completed the e-nomination facility of his account, due to which his kin had to do the process manually which took them around 20 days’ time.
“EPFO came to know about the unnatural death from the media and we contacted the officials of the hotel. Since the deceased was enrolled with EPFO, we started the process to pay the benefits but found that he did not activate e-nomination facility,” said an EPFO official.
Since Raut’s parents were in Odisha, the family took time to arrange papers and file for the claim.
