Vadodara: There was no let up in Covid-19 cases in the city and district with 22 new cases being reported on Thursday. Two patients including a former municipal corporator also had to be hospitalized.
While the number of cases was lesser as compared to Wednesday which saw 25 new cases, the new cases on Thursday were also reported from areas where no cases were found on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, no new cases were reported from the south zone of the city and areas of the district outside
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits. But on Thursday, both the south zone and the areas outside VMC limits reported two cases each.
West zone of the city saw the highest number of new cases on Thursday with 12 persons testing positive. This was followed by the east and north zones which reported three cases each on the day. The 22 new cases in the city were reported from 1,112 tests conducted in the 24 hours ending on Thursday evening.
Sources said that the new cases in the west zone included those detected in contact tracing of the two affected families whose members had tested positive on Wednesday. The two families had travelled during the vacation separately and are believed to have been infected during travel.
A former woman
BJP corporator also tested positive after she fell ill and had to be hospitalized. While she was initially in a hospital that did not have an isolation ward and her samples were collected for tests, she was rushed to another hospital having the facility after she tested positive.
A VMC official said that the two hospitalized patients showed mild symptoms. They were on room air with no requirement for oxygen support till Thursday evening.
