Many students start attending classes

Mangaluru: As many as 45 students, including 29 students who had remained absent, and 11 students who had maintained a distance from protests that were held over the hijab row at the Government First Grade College, Uppinangady, have started attending classes since Wednesday. With this, the situation seems to be returning to normal. The Muslim students had demanded permission to wear the hijab inside the classroom, since the last week of May.
A total 24 students who were suspended on Tuesday, are expected to resume classes on Monday. The college has about 100 Muslim students, and the six students who were suspended for defying the dress code initially, have given the college an undertaking on Wednesday, that they will not violate it. Accordingly, their suspension has been revoked, sources informed.
