Cancer care centre to open tomorrow

Mangaluru: Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology, a comprehensive cancer care centre supported by Tata Trusts, at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital in its Deralakatte campus, will be dedicated to the public on Saturday. Dr Jalaluddin Akbar KC, head, Oncology, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, told reporters on Thursday that the establishment of the Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology, executed by Tata Trusts through Alamelu Charitable Foundation, is a new milestone.
“Yenepoya Medical College with a 1,100-bed hospital has a cancer centre with 120 beds functioning since 2016. It offers community oncology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, haemato-oncology, onco-pathology and palliative care. Tata Trusts has supported the institute with a one-time grant-in-aid in establishing a new comprehensive cancer centre in the medical college hospital,” Dr Akbar said.
