Prophet Muhammad row: Assam Congress lodges FIR against Nupur Sharma, Naveen Jindal

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday lodged an FIR against suspended BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal at Bhangagarh police station in Guwahati for derogatory references to Prophet Muhammad.
“I on behalf of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee would like to file a complaint against the above persons (Sharma and Jindal) for making derogatory statements about Prophet of Islam Hazarat Mohammad (SA) in electronic and print media which has tarnished the image of Indian civilization and has affected our age old unity & Integrity amidst diversity,” read the FIR filed by party spokesperson Romen Chandra Borthakur.
It further stated, “such statements always adversely and negatively impact our society and it is considered as criminal offence. In view of the above, action may be taken against the above mentioned persons as per the IPC and exemplary punishment should be given to them. Otherwise this may invite unwanted circumstances.”
