RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (
RMC) is planning to launch Ranchi Sanitation League from June 10 to August 15 to inculcate better cleanliness practices among the sanitation workers.
The initiative is the brainchild of RMC commissioner
Mukesh Kumar and aims at adopting and implementing innovative methods to improve the city’s cleanliness. It also aims at making the sanitation service citizen-centric across municipal limits.
Talking to TOI on Thursday, Kumar said, “The overall cleanliness of any city has various components and we will give marks to the teams on the basis of their work against these components.”
He added, “We have divided the components into 10 categories, including door-to-door garbage collection, cleaning of drains and roads, open defecation and urination, among others. The condition of open garbage dumps and garbage vehicles and the maintenance of streetlights and modular toilets will also be accessed.”
The civic body has initiated a new category under which the teams will be awarded marks for providing solutions to a civic problem, beautifying the Garbage Vulnerable Point, and taking steps against single-use plastic.
In order to conduct the initiative in a smooth manner, 10 teams have been constituted under the leadership of seven city managers and three city mission managers. The managers will work in coordination with the zonal supervisors and the residents’ welfare associations in their respective areas.
Deputy municipal commissioner
Rajnish Kumar said, “The 10 teams’ work will be evaluated from July 6 to August 5. The results will be announced on August 13 and the winning team will receive the award on August 15.”
Sandeep Kumar, a city manager with the
Swachh Bharat Mission cell of RMC, said, “The league model will motivate the sanitation workers to use the RMC’s resources in the best possible way The initiative will also rope in volunteers, social workers, and the residents who can share their ideas.”
