Noida: Four men, of whom two are believed to be involved in hundreds of snatching cases, were arrested in separate gunfights in the city mere 6-7km away and a few hours apart on Wednesday. Police said on Thursday the first shootout took place near Sector 33 after police received a tip-off about a gang operating in Noida.
“Our teams had been working actively on miscreants involved in snatching incidents. We had analysed some CCTV footage and found that the gang was active in Noida. On Wednesday, our team got a tip-off about the movement of the miscreants following which a trap was laid,” said Ranvijay Singh, additional
DCP, Noida. When asked to stop near Sector 33 around 9am, two riders on one of the bikes opened fire at the police, prompting them to retaliate. The two accused —Vinod Singh (36), Bharat Das (39), both residents of Delhi — were injured in the gunfight and arrested. The third biker
Vijay Shende, a resident of Sahibabad, was also arrested.
Noida police said the gang had been targeting women near hospitals, temples and schools in Delhi-NCR. “Vinod and Bharat had been snatching since 2008 and carried out over 450 incidents in Delhi-NCR,” the additional DCP said.
ACP-2 Rajneesh Verma said the three will be booked under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. An FIR filed against the three at the Sector 24 police station has charged them under
IPC sections 392 (robbery), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 307 (attempt to murder).
The second gunfight took place during a routine check near Sector 101 – around 6-7km from Sector 33 -- on Wednesday night. “A man riding a black scooter suddenly took a U-turn on seeing the police vehicle. A team from the Sector 113 police station found it suspicious and started following him,” the additional DCP said. A similar sequence of events followed. The rider shot at the police, and was injured in retaliatory firing. “The accused is V Gangesh, a resident of Delhi. He used to break the windows of cars and steal laptops,” Singh said. An FIR was filed against him at the Sector 113 police station.
