Congress Wins 3 Rajasthan Rajya Sabha Seats, Zee's Subhash Chandra Loses
The Congress has won three of the four Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan with cross-voting by BJP members. One seat has gone to the BJP. A closely watched contest marked with cross-voting and defections -- was held on 16 seats across four states.

  2. In Rajasthan, Congress candidates Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Surjewala got extra votes. So did BJP candidate Ghanshyam Tiwari. Zee chairman Subhash Chandra, backed by the BJP, lost.

  3. In Karnataka, where HD Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal (Secular) has turned out to the kingmaker, at least one JD(S) MLA K Srinivasa Gowda said he voted for the Congress "because he loved it".

  4. There was uncertainty about one more vote. Alleging "horse-trading", Mr Kumaraswamy said, "30 out of 32 stood by us".

  5. The Congress, which is in opposition in Haryana, is playing defence with one of its MLA's vote reportedly being declared invalid while Independent MLAs voted for the ruling BJP.

  6. Media baron Kartikeya Sharma -- who is contesting as an Independent in one of Haryana's two seats against the BJP's Krishan Lal Panwar and Congress's Ajay Maken --  has complained to the Election Commission asking that the votes of two candidates be declared invalid.

  7. In Maharashtra, the ruling coalition of the Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party suffered a setback with arrested minister Nawab Malik not allowed to vote by the Bombay High Court.

  8. The polls were held to fill 57 vacant seats across 15 states. Of these, the BJP held 23 seats and eight were held by Congress. The rest were divided between the other parties.

  9. The maximum seats, 11, are located in Uttar Pradesh. It is followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu with six seats each. Five seats from Bihar, four each from Karnataka, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, three each from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha were also vacant.

  10. Besides, two seats each from Punjab, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Telangana and one seat from Uttarakhand are also vacant.
