Wish of farmer’s daughter from UP's Amethi to visit ISRO’s SAC centre in Gujarat takes wings

Neetu Maurya with Smriti Irani
LUCKNOW: The joy of Neetu Maurya, 21, a final year polytechnic student from Amethi, knew no bounds when she landed in Ahmedabad on Thursday along with her father, a farmer, and Union minister Smriti Irani for finally realising her long-cherished dream of visiting the Isro Space Applications Centre (SAC).
Speaking exclusively to TOI over phone from Ahmedabad, Neetu said she would be visiting the facility on Friday along with Union minister Smriti Irani, who had promised to facilitate her trip to the space institute on coming to know of her desire.
“I have no words to describe my happiness. I have been longing to visit ISRO and study there ever since I passed Class X. I used to worship Goddess Gauri and prayed to her every day to fulfil my wish,” Neetu said while thanking Amethi MP and Union minister Smriti Irani profusely
“My father is a farmer and we are three siblings, hence it would not have been possible for me without the blessings of our MP Smriti Irani,” she said.
Neetu is pursuing a diploma in electrical engineering from Sanjay Gandhi Polytechnic at Jagdishpur and is in the final year of her course.
It all started on May 10, when the Union women and child development minister had visited the Gauriganj assembly seat for the inauguration of a private educational institute near Durgan Bhawani Dham and distribution of tablets and smartphones to students under the state government’s scheme.
While handing over a tablet to Neetu, Irani casually asked her about her ambition in life. “Neetu was quick to reply that she wanted to visit Isro and study there to become a scientist,” said the girl’s father Jag Prasad Maurya.
