Girls may be suspended for failing to reply to show-cause notice from college

Mangaluru: Three Muslim girls, who were served show-cause notices by University College, Hampankatta, failed to show up at the college on Thursday, or reply to the notice. The college has planned to take action against them, after discussing the issue with Mangalore University officials.
Anasuya Rai, principal of the college, told TOI that Gousiya and two other girls had conducted a press conference with regard to the hijab ban, and addressed the media during class hours.
They were served with a show cause-notice on Monday, and they had to reply to it by Thursday. However, none of them have turned up .
“On Thursday, we drafted a letter addressed to the registrar of Mangalore University, asking what steps can be taken next. The decision will be taken after we get a reply from Mangalore University officials,” she said.
P S Yadapadithaya, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, said that Muslim girl students will be suspended from the college, if they fail to give a reply to the show -cause notice.
“However, we will wait for some time for their reply,” said Yadapadithaya.
Yadapadithaya also clarified that the special syndicate meeting scheduled on Saturday, will not discuss any matter regarding the hijab ban at University College.
“The syndicate meeting is called purely to discuss other issues of the varsity. Mangalore University has already decided about the hijab ban at its constituent colleges, and it will remain in force. There is no reconsideration of the decision taken by the Mangalore University syndicate,” he stressed.
