Do not deny police clearance to those named in petty cases: DGP

Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Anil Kant has reiterated that police should not deny police clearance certificates to those who have been named in petty cases and those named in traffic violation cases.
The state police chief issued a clarification in the wake of several youngsters being denied police clearance certificates, including for offences involving motor vehicle rule violations. The police clearance certificate is usually issued for educational purposes and jobs. With the latest directive, several applications kept pending in police stations are expected to be cleared soon. At the same time, applications of those involved in repeated violations of motor vehicle rules will be examined separately.
The state police chief had earlier given a detailed guideline on issuing the police clearance certificate, in which it was said that when it is found that the applicant is involved in a criminal case (other than traffic or petty offences) within the police station or in the district or city jurisdiction or elsewhere and a certificate cannot be issued, a reply should be given to the applicant informing that the certificate cannot be issued due to his or her involvement in the criminal case. The certificate can also be denied if the applicant has furnished incorrect information in the application form. The district police chiefs and station house officers have been asked to issue the certificate within seven days of receipt of the application in normal circumstances.
