Mysuru: Using boards and logos of government departments, boards, corporations, and non-government agencies in any private vehicles is banned and attracts penal action and punishment for repeat offences.
Private vehicles hired by government agencies to facilitate officers to commute between home and workplaces and for official works including travelling to headquarters to attend any meeting have been using the logos of government agencies and boards above vehicle registration plate. Some of the private vehicle drivers have been taking advantage of this and are allegedly misusing it.
To end this illegal practice, the transport department has directed private vehicle owners against using government logos and boards along with the registration number of vehicles. The high court has ordered the removal of boards of local agencies fitted above the registration number in 2017. Despite reminders, private vehicles continue to use them.
The transport department has resorted to taking public help in identifying such vehicles. It has appealed to residents to send photos of vehicles still using boards of government departments and boards on WhatsApp to 9449863459 for action against them. Almost every government department and board hire private vehicles to facilitate transportation services to officers and members and these vehicles have been using boards.
Using logos or boards of local agencies in private vehicles is a violation of the
Motor Vehicle Act and The Emblems of India (prohibition of improper use) Act 2005.
CT Murthy, joint commissioner of transport, confirmed to TOI that the public can upload photos of such vehicles to a given number and necessary action would be taken as per the law. Using logos and boards of government departments in private vehicles is a violation of laws and they must be removed immediately, he added.
DC Bagadi Gautham said the circular would be circulated to every agency for necessary action as soon as it reaches his office.
