Yoga Day protocol training kicks off

Mysuru: Officials are training people from all walks of life in the yoga protocol prescribed for the main event in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform yoga here.
Less than two weeks are left for the International Day of Yoga on June 21.
On Wednesday, 70 people who were picked up from among Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), transgenders and those infected with HIV were trained about the yoga protocol. They will perform yoga with the Prime Minister.
The training session started at 8 am at the district health officer’s office in Nazarabad.
Krishnaraja MLA SA Ramadas, district health officer Dr KH Prasad and senior officials of the department were present.
PN Ganesh Kumar, the founder of the Mysore Vivekananda Yoga Education And Research Institution, trained the participants.
Thirteen persons with HIV, over 40 transgenders as well as ASHA workers participated.
Till now, over 10,000 persons have been shortlisted to do yoga with Narendra Modi in front of the Mysuru Palace.
The registration for the event is being done at the various department levels, said officials. “We expect a separate list of yoga performers from the PMO also,” an official said.
Mysuru district in-charge minister ST Somashekar will head a high-powered committee by the state government to oversee the preparations for the main event.
Health minister Dr K Sudhakar will be the co-chairperson of the committee.
The committee has 21 members. There is no place for people’s representatives from the district or yoga federation representatives.
Union Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal has written to Mysuru MP Prathap Simha to encourage people, NGOs, and private organisations in the Mysuru constituency to participate in all activities and programmes related to Yoga Day. In his letter, the minister said MP Simha may lead the Yoga Day observation.
Two days AYUSH mela
An AYUSH mela will be on at the exhibition ground in the city. The details of this mela are yet to be finalised.
