Coimbatore: A newborn baby girl with umbilical cord intact was found abandoned in a cloth bag at
Neeliknampalayam near
Singanallur on Wednesday. The newborn was rescued by paramedics of the 108 ambulance service and admitted to the
Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (
CMCH).
A CMCH official said the baby was born around four hours ago when she was brought to the hospital. “Doctors noticed some anomalies in newborn’s lower limb. She is kept in the neonatal intensive care unit. But there were no external injuries. The newborn will be handed over to the district social welfare department in a few days.”
Earlier, passersby heard a baby crying and found her in the bag. They alerted the 108 ambulance service. Paramedics gave first aid to the newborn upon reaching the spot and then took her to the hospital.
Meanwhile, police were informed and they are in the process of tracing the person who abandoned the baby.
