Just a girl who cared to try, Kshama Bindu wrote in mehendi

VADODARA: The vibrant colours of her mehendi reflected her radiant mood but the dark hues also belied Kshama Bindu's strong determination to achieve what she had wanted to - self wed! And so, instead of staining her hand with another's name, she decorated her palms with her wedding vows that read, "Just a girl who cared enough to try" and more.
"I dedicated the mehendi ritual to myself," the 24-year-old Barodian bride told TOI, adding that she plans to register her marriage and get legal sanctity.

"I followed all the traditional rituals of the marriage but with a distinctive touch of self-wedding - from mehendi to applying haldi on Wednesday morning. We all shared one of the most beautiful moments of any bride's life, her wedding," Kshama reflected later while enjoying with her close assembly of guests.
The day began like it does for any other bride - being escorted into the tastefully decorated flowery venue by adoring friends, Kshama, resplendent in her bridal finery which she took hours to preen herself into, gave the venue the touch of sombreness that all wedding mandaps do.
"I am getting bouquets and brickbats on social media, but it's okay. A woman can follow all traditions and yet have a modern outlook. My self-marriage is just a way of telling others, they too can prioritise themselves," the 24-year-old bride, who earlier attended a LGBTQ rally held in the city last week, told TOI.
