Janmashtami Mela to be held after 2 years in Rajkot

Rajkot: People of Saurashtra will get the opportunity to enjoy the Janmashtami Mela in Rajkot after a gap of two years. The mela had been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 in view of Covid pandemic.
The district administration is positive about organising the mela this year and a meeting for its preparation was held by district collector Arun Mahesh Babu on Wednesday. The collector is the head of Lok Mela committee. The five-day Janmashtami Lok Mela will be organised from August 17 to August 21 on Race Course ground.
Various committees like coordination committee, execution committee and cultural programme committee were formed. Additional resident collector K B Thakkar instructed the heads of all committees to start working for the mela.
Police officials have been asked to take care of the law and order in the mela, CCTV cameras, security, traffic, parking and emergency helpline numbers. The municipal corporation was asked to take care of fire safety, health facilities and checking of food qualities.
The mela is a much-awaited event for the people of Saurashtra and those who are natives of Saurashtra but are settled elsewhere also join this event. According to a rough estimate, around 10 lakh people flock to Rajkot during this mela.
Over 150 stores, rides and other activities are put in place and the mela runs for 24 hours on all the five days.
