THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Congress and BJP leaders have held the state government responsible for the series of food poisoning cases reported in schools in many parts of the state.
Opposition leader
V D Satheesan said the government failed to fulfil its responsibilities in connection with the school reopening. When a lot of things were to be done ahead of the school reopening and monsoon, the ministers and CM were camping in
Thrikkakkara for the byelection.
"The government now says that people's representatives should dine with students in schools. Does it mean that food poisoning would be over if they do so? The government should first find out whether the food items distributed to schools were edible or not. That’s the only way to check food poisoning'', he said.
BJP state president
K Surendran said the government should take up the responsibility for the food poisoning cases in schools. The government cannot evade its responsibility just because education minister
V Sivankutty and food & Civil Supplies minister
G R Anil were visiting schools. ``There was no coordination among the education, health and food safety departments.
“When the whole government machinery shifted its focus to Thrikkakkara byelection, the government forgot about school reopening and noon meal to students'', he said.
