Police said 35-year-old Krishan Kumar was run over by the car that was just behind his bike when he fell on the road, crushing his head and leaving him with fatal injuries.
Kumar had died by the time he was wheeled into a hospital by a passerby. The accident took place in the Chhota Bazar of Pataudi around 9.30pm, when Kumar was returning home to Janola village after closing down his shop around 2km away from the spot.
Police said they were scanning CCTV footage to track down the car driver who didn’t stop after the accident.
“In the CCTV footage, we saw a buffalo running towards Kumar and hitting him with horns, following which he fell to the ground. He was already bleeding after the attack. But within seconds, a car came and ran over him. We are investigating the matter,” a police officer said.
On Monday, an FIR was lodged against the unidentified driver at Pataudi police station under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence).
Kumar’s uncle, Chandra Singh, told TOI that after the accident, he was rushed to a government hospital by a passerby, who turned out to be an acquaintance. “Doctors said he had died of excessive blood loss by the time they reached the hospital,” Singh said.
Kumar, a father of two kids – 11 and 13 – used to open his shop at 10am and close it around 9pm daily. “His shop was doing well and he was planning to expand it too,” the uncle said.
