V Kamala, a resident, said, a foul smell emantes from sewage water flowing throughout the day. “During rainy season, it gets worse. We are already worried about monsoon rains in coming months.”
A
hotelier S K Bhoopathy said customers are not coming to the hotel as sewage water flows in front of the hotel. “I have informed the
SMC officials several times but there has been no response so far,” he said.
Mayor Ramachandran’s election office and a
DMK office are situated at K K Nagar. The residents alleged that the party cadres and the mayor were not coming to the party office because of the foul smell from sewage water.
“During the rainy season, sewage water mixes with rainwater. There is a possibilty of an outbreak of waterborne diseases, making our lives more miserable,” a resident said.
Mayor Ramachandran said there was no government land to divert sewage water for storage in the K K Nagar area. “I initiated talks with private land owners to provide their parcels of land to construct drainage to take the sewage water. Already 16 crore has been allotted for the purpose by the SMC. Once an agreement is reached, construction work will begin.”
