Lucknow: Amid scorching heat and high temperatures across north India, chief minister
Yogi Adityanath has directed all district magistrates to ensure sufficient water supply in their respective areas. In orders on Monday, the CM said there should be no shortage of drinking water in any district and in urban areas, water supply should be rostered as per schedule.
“The CM has said that all handpumps should be operational. Rural piped water schemes should be implemented smoothly and without disruptions. Senior officials have been asked to tour their areas and assess the water supply situation,” said a government spokesperson.
The CM has also appealed to NGOs to ensure that there is no water problem anywhere for which they need to stay connected with the government. Piyau or community drinking points in public areas are a good idea, he added, and efforts should also be made to arrange water and shade for cattle and other animals in public areas.
He has also appealed to citizens to keep water in small containers for birds and small animals.
Gram panchayats and urban local bodies should ensure their ponds have water for animals and birds during extreme heat.
“The CM has also directed the forest department to ensure water supply for animals. Officials have been asked to survey areas under them constantly to ensure that ponds do not dry up and there is ample water for animals. New ponds can also be dug if there is a shortage of water,” the spokesperson added.
