Cops seize property worth ₹661 cr in crackdown on criminals since March

Lucknow: Continuing the crackdown on listed criminals and gangsters, UP Police have attached property worth Rs 661 crore since the Yogi 2.0 government came to power in March this year. The property was seized in accordance with the provisions of the Gangsters Act.
In the previous tenure of the Yogi Adityanath government from 2017 to 2022, property and assets worth Rs 1,400 crore of listed gangsters and criminals had been seized.
ADG, law and order, Prashant Kumar, said that gangsters whose properties were seized and razed had been booked under the Gangsters Act. “As per the provisions of this act, the property procured from crime proceeds is attached by police,” he said.
Since March, as many as 788 listed mafia dons, criminals were booked under the Gangsters Act.
“It includes 30 mining mafia, 228 liquor mafia, 168 animal trafficking mafia, 347 land mafia, 18 education mafia and 359 other mafia,” the ADG added.
We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of 25 crore population and are making consistent efforts to act against listed criminals and gangsters, said Kumar.
“We will continue the action against criminals and all district police chiefs have been told to initiate action, like suspension of arms licences and scrutiny of the properties, of the top 10 gangsters in their districts,” he added.
In recent months, property of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLC Haji Iqbal worth Rs 107 crore, assets worth Rs 50 crore of former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Balrampur Anwar Hashmi, and property worth Rs 50 crore of slain Bikru gangster Vikas Dubey has been seized.
The extended list also includes names of gangster Riaz Islam (Rs 27 crore), fugitive Badan Singh Badoo (Rs 15 crore).
Besides, Rs 3.28 crore property of Samajwadi Party MP Rizwan Zaheer has been seized while police and district administration have traced his illegal property worth Rs 79 crore in Balrampur and Lucknow.
