Ahmedabad: A 14-year-old girl from
Naroda, a student of Class 9, left her home on Monday afternoon to commit suicide, ostensibly as she was under pressure because of her studies and she learned that the result of the Class 10 board exams were poor this year. An alert citizen and a police man came for her rescue and took her back to her parents.
The girl,
Krisha Patel, was spotted by a passenger from
Kalol named
Rakesh Patel, at Platform 1 of Ahmedabad railway station.
“When I saw him, she was crying and looking at the trains. I went up to her and asked if she had a problem. She said that she wanted to quit this life and did not want to go back to her family,” said Rakesh.
He said he distracted her and then saw that her notebook had phone numbers of her fellow students.
“I picked a number and called it. Fortunately, it was the number of a cop’s son. The call was answered by the cop’s wife, who told her husband, PSI R B Chauhan, who works for the state IB, about the girl,” said Rakesh.
Chauhan said he immediately contacted that girl’s teacher and sent him a photograph of her. Chauhan took the details of her parents and coordinated counselling for the girl at the railway station.
After being counselled, she got a bit comfortable and her parents were sent there to meet her. She was handed over to her parents who took a sigh of relief after finding her.
Chauhan said the girl was crushed by the burden of her studies and the unwarranted pressure from her parents. “I am glad I could save the life of a young girl and that she could return to her parents,” he said.
