Ludhiana: The anniversary of
Operation Bluestar remained peaceful in the city on Monday. No march was organized by any organization. A special security was deployed at the houses of Hindu leaders who were not allowed to come out of their residences. In addition, police forces were deployed at religious places to avert any untoward incident.
At least 70% of the police force of Ludhiana commissionerate along with the companies of BSF and CRPF were on the roads on Monday. The police had also established checkposts at different areas of the city.
Police commissioner Dr Kaustubh Sharma and other senior police officials visited different religious places. The top officials had met different organizations and had asked them not to conduct any march.
Rajiv Tandon, chairman,
Shiv Sena (Punjab), said, “I was not allowed to step outside my house today. The police personnel came to my house and remained there till evening. On the one hand, Hindu leaders were restrained from coming out of the houses, on the other a pro-Khalistani march was organized in Amritsar. Such is the hypocrisy of the
Punjab government.”
Some other Hindu leaders, including Ashok Thapar, president of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar brigade anti-terrorist front, were also restrained from coming out of their houses.
