Kolkata: The
Haridevpur police lodged a zero FIR and forwarded a complaint to the Nodakhali police after a woman approached
Kolkata Police claiming that her husband — whom she married four years ago and is employed in Bengal Police as an assistant sub-inspector — had assaulted her parents when they went to meet him on the occasion of
Jamai Shasthi on Sunday.
According to the complaint lodged, the Haridevpur resident had married the
cop in 2018. They also have a child.
“My parents — Khokhan and Usha Adhikari — had asked my husband to come to Haridevpur for Jamai Shasthi. However, he refused, claiming that he was busy. Hence, my parents decided to meet him at Nodakhali,” she stated .
According to the victims, the complainant was often mistreated and harassed by her in-laws.
A few months ago, the ASI was transferred to Kolkata and he started staying at Haridevpur. But even here, he continued to misbehave with his wife and his in-laws.
Back at Nodakhali, the parents of the accused were initially cordial. “It started on a cordial note but soon things changed. They first aggressively pushed us and finally punched us. We felt unwell and immediately decided to return. We lodged the complaint on Sunday evening,” Usha later stated.
According to Haridevpur police, they have sent the FIR to the local police in Nodakhali as the alleged crime took place there. “We could not refuse a complaint from a woman. The primary claims appeared to be true and hence we entertained the complaint. We have asked them if they want to lodge a dowry harassment case, too,” said an officer.
The police at Nodakhali stated that all legal proceedings required for a fair probe have been initiated.
