Bhubaneswar Govt hikes scholarships for SC & ST boarders

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has enhanced the pre-matric scholarship for scheduled tribe and scheduled caste boarders from Rs 750 to Rs 950 for boys and from Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 for girls.
Provision of pre-matric scholarships to ST & SC boarders of schools under the ST & SC development and school & mass education departments is one of the flagship schemes of the government.
The pre-matric scholarship is primarily meant for mess management in the hostels and aims for educational and holistic development of ST & SC boarders.
Further, millet (mandia)-based food items would be introduced in the hostel menu to address the nutritional security of the boarders.
The scheme would benefit more than five lakh ST & SC boarders.
An expenditure of Rs 490 crore would be incurred annually towards pre-matric scholarship. The monthly rate of pre-matric scholarship of ST and SC boarders was last enhanced in 2015.
